Lockdown/ Deactivate touchscreen
When your iPad is awake and alert, it doesn’t take much pressure on the screen to open an app. It’s great when you want the screen to be responsive, but not so much when you’re carrying your device around and accidentally activate something during transit, which can be highly inconvenient.
To prevent apps from opening or messages being sent when you do not want them to, you simply need to lock the iPad. Just press the Sleep/ Wake button on the top of your device. To wake the iPad, press it again, swipe to the right to open and tap in your passcode. It’s a delightfully simple process, but could save you from accidentally messaging your boss. We’ve all done it, and if you haven’t yet, you never need to!
Silence iPad/ Adjust the volume
You can manage the volume of your iPad using the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons located on the right of your device. The screen will show the image of a speaker with small squares beneath it. The fewer filled squares, the quieter the sound. If you want to silence the device, flip the switch found just above the volume buttons on the right of your iPad (you will need to set the ‘Use the side switch to’ option to Mute in Settings> General).
A line will be placed on a bell image to indicate the device has been silenced. This especially useful when you’ve forgotten to turn mute your alerts when in a meeting.
