Use Siri for Typing on iPad and iPhone

Dictate a message / Use Siri instead of the keyboard

Siri can also be used as a tool for dictating text within a number of apps that come pre-installed on your iPad. Whenever a keyboard appears you may have noticed a microphone that appears next to the space bar. Simply tap this and start talking instead of typing.

There are a few tricks you need to know to get the best results when using Siri for this purpose – as what you say is not always perfectly rendered. For starters, keep your speech to snippets of no more than 30 seconds. In addition to the main text, you can also add punctuation by saying something like ‘full stop’ or ‘comma’. Tap Done once you have finished dictating.

Make sure to check your message before you press Send. You can add more to the message by tapping the microphone again.
